A business event is “Any public or private activity consisting of a minimum of 15 persons with a common interest or vocation, held in a specific venue or venues, and hosted by an organisation (or organisations). This may include (but not limited to): conferences, conventions, symposia, congresses, incentive group events, marketing events, special celebrations, seminars, courses, public or trade shows, product launches, exhibitions, company annual general meetings, corporate retreats, study tours or training programs” Business Events Council of Australia (BECA).
Business Events Tasmania’s services are free to anyone who is considering hosting a national or international business event (see above definition) in Tasmania.  This includes, but is not limited to, association committees; professional conference organisers; meeting managers; incentive agents; corporate PA’s; academics; local members of associations, franchises or corporate organisations hoping to bring their national event to Tasmania.

No. Our job is to assess the feasibility of an event being hosted in Tasmania and to prepare a fully costed proposal including all the relevant products and services that meet the needs of the event.  We assist with site inspections, funding, delegate boosting resources and marketing/public relations but not management of the event itself.  Once Tasmania has been chosen as the host destination we recommend that a professional conference organiser or meeting manager be engaged to manage the event.  We have many talented options within our membership.
Convention bureaux exist in most, if not all, business event destinations worldwide and are recognised as the first point of call for event planners assessing a destination’s abilities to host an event.  The role of a Convention bureau (universally) is to offer a free, impartial service to event planners with essential knowledge on their destination.

Bureaux play a vital role in coordinating the business event sectors varied suppliers and products and presenting their offerings to clients in an unbiased fashion.

The bureau establishes the objectives and requirements of the event and then uses their expert local knowledge to match the needs of the event with the available facilities, venues and entertainment within the set budget parameters. The bureau coordinates the industry, sourcing quotes and presenting a united proposal from the destination tailored to the specific needs of a given event.

Yes. BET is Tasmania’s only convention bureau.
A formal sales document presented to a client for a particular piece of business presenting Tasmania’s ‘offer’ to host the specified event.  The document includes an overview of the destination relevant to the event, proposals from relevant suppliers, letters of support from relevant industry ambassadors, and any other information requested by the client.
An opportunity for a client to see relevant products and services first hand for a business event that is either confirmed to the destination or the destination has been shortlisted.
A familiarisation is a fully hosted tour of business event product in a destination designed to increase the knowledge and confidence of event planners in that destination.  The objective is to showcase the state to clients who have events with the potential to be hosted in the state, so that they can then consider the destination for future events.
