Launceston on the move

There’s a boom happening in northern Tasmania and to keep pace with the growing demand in visitors Launceston is swinging into action.

Work is progressing on the much anticipated $20 million Peppers Silo Hotel, a seven-storey hotel, with 108 accommodation rooms and function space. All accommodation rooms will have superb views looking out over the nearby Seaport and Royal Park, Tamar River Basin and the city’s unique natural oasis, Cataract Gorge. The Silos Hotel will be a fantastic addition to the city of Launceston and is expected to open in April 2018.

Josef Chromy also recently released his vision for the city of Launceston’s next major hotel project, The Gorge Hotel. The $50 million hotel inspired by its namesake, aims to be a ‘legacy’ for Launceston. If everything runs according to plan the 130-room, 4.5-star hotel will open its doors mid-2020. The hotel will boast a conference/function area that will hold over 500 conference attendees.

The city is also celebrating a recent major coup, having been chosen to host the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards gala dinner. The award ceremony will be held in mid-February 2019 in the picturesque settings of the Cataract Gorge. This will be the largest tourism event ever held in Launceston — and only the second time the event has been held outside a capital city.
